Improvements

This release addresses improvements impacting editors, users, and developers, enhancing stability, workflow and overall efficiency. Here's what's new:

  • Better install stability and reduced downtime: There was a change in setuptools, a central package used when installing Plone. This resolves issues related to errors when installing newer Plone packages or add-ons, as well as startup errors. Lots of Plone packages now have updates that solve these problems.
  • Better add-on management: plone.api now has a whole new addon module. With this, integrators can more easily install or uninstall add-ons, or get information. See the documentation.
  • Simplified Content Export/Import: The export and import functionality that is new in 6.1, has been been improved. There are less meaningless differences when you import a distribution, make some changes in the content, and then export it again, because we apply more sorting. This makes it easier to see and track actual changes. The plone-importer script now provides real-time feedback on object creation: reporting each object that is created, so you can see that there is progress. You can turn this off with the --quiet option.
  • A wider range of email addresses are supported: More email addresses are treated as valid. Until now, for example, an email address with an apostrophe, or with a top level domain of more than four characters, would be refused. Also, some related edge cases when using email as login have been fixed for much improved user registration and login processes.
  • Enhanced content browser widget: In Classic UI, the content browser widget that is new in Plone 6.1, has been improved, leading to a better user experience. This is particularly useful, for example, when adding internal links in rich text fields.
  • Flexible Action Management: The ability to move actions between categories in the Classic UI's Actions control panel allows for customized workflow and more control.

This release offers substantial improvements across the board - upgrade today to benefit from these crucial enhancements.
