Plone Symposium Midwest 2014 Needs You

The second annual Plone Symposium Midwest will bring two days of talks, optional training classes and sprints to the University of Wisconsin Oshkosh on June 18 and 19.

Early Bird Registration Ends April 1st

You can register for this year’s symposium, focused on the timely theme “To Plone 5 and Beyond,” at the early bird rate of $220, a $55 savings, at midwest.plonesymp.org/registration.

Keynotes Announced

The keynote speakers are Brian Silverman and Steve McMahon.

Silverman, a Consulting Scientist to the MIT Media Lab, will deliver the opening keynote titled, “Why I am not an open source developer.”

McMahon, known for his consultancy work with nonprofits and member of the Plone Foundation Board, will close the symposium with his address, “The Sociology of Open-Source Community.”

Call for Talks is Now Open

The Plone Symposium Midwest is looking for submissions from speakers interested in giving talks June 18 and 19.

The hour-long presentations should be instructional in nature and engage the audience in learning. Topics could include, but are not limited to: Diazo, search engine optimization, Plone 5, security, Dexterity, workflow applications, and Intranets. The deadline for submissions is April 1st. Please submit your talk proposals at midwest.plonesymp.org/talk-proposals.

Pre-symposium Trainings, scheduled for June 13-17 include:

Fundamentals of Python by Chris Calloway on June 13-17:

  • Designed for system administrators, themers, and integrators, you will learn the fundamentals of Python in this highly interactive class.

Plone 4 Theming by Chrissy Wainwright on June 16-17:

  • Web designers, Plone developers, and anyone interested in building a theme or customizing templates for a Plone site will theme a site from start to finish using Diazo.

Strategic Thinking & Practices Workshop by Dr. Curtis Odom on June 17:

  • Back by popular demand, Dr. Odom will help participants select leadership strategies to help them achieve desired business goals and develop a strategic plan as part of the workshop. While the workshop is a one day event, participants will be given the tools to continue developing their leadership skills as an ongoing process.

Sprinters Wanted

Three days of sprints will be will be held following the conference on June 20-22. Sprints allow anyone to contribute to the Plone community. Non-developers are as important to the success of a sprint as developers, and sprints are great opportunities to learn from and connect with experienced contributors. We need team members to work on marketing, communications and theme creation in addition to writing new code, fixing bugs, updating installers, writing documentation and creating test cases.

The University of Wisconsin Oshkosh is the third largest campus in the University of Wisconsin System, with over 13,000 full time undergraduate students and almost 1,500 faculty and staff. As a driver of the regional economy, UW Oshkosh is an internationally renowned showcase of innovation.
