One of the youngest universities in Germany, the University of Koblenz-Landau has strengths in Computer Science and Psychology, as well as traditional Departments of Education, the Humanities, and Natural Science. Their Plone website was created in 2007 and supports the daily workings of all departments. It uses Plone's multilingual capabilities to support content in German and English.

In 2011, UCLA made the strategic decision to standardize on Plone, and there are now over 25 Plone sites at the University. They created a new hosting infrastructure that can support on-demand provisioning of Plone sites either as microsites managed by a single Plone instance, or stand-alone sites on virtual machines. They also developed a system based on the PubSubHubbub protocol to syndicate content across university sites. PubSubHubbub is a simple, open, server-to-server web-hook-based pubsub (publish/subscribe) protocol that extends Atom and RSS. It allows near-instant notifications (via webhook callbacks) to clients when a feed URL is updated.

Serving residents to the west of Calgary, Alberta, Rocky View Schools has over 16,000 students in grades K-12. It is the sixth largest school district in the province, with more than 1,000 teaching and 700 support staff. Rocky View Schools chose the open source Plone CMS because it offered them the enterprise-level security and user management features they needed, with no licensing costs attached. They are now running more than 30 school sites.

All content is geocoded and has extensive metadata, making it possible to create rich displays of dynamic content collections on maps or in faceted searches.

OpenCourseWare provides large-scale, web-based publication of course materials. Formed in 2005 by MIT OpenCourseWare and others, the consortium now has hundreds of members worldwide. publishing thousands of courses. The system uses Plone as its CMS component.

Connexions is a global repository of educational content provided and maintained by Rice University free of charge. It provides a place to view and share educational material made of small knowledge chunks that can be remixed as courses, books, reports, etc. The content comes from all over the world in a growing variety of languages. It is grassroots organized from the bottom up - everyone is free to join and take on a leadership role. Plone provides "workspaces" that facilitate collaboration with shared space and the ability to version materials and derive content from existing modules.
