After the official release of Plone 6.0, organisations, developers and integrators had a very productive year using the Plone platform for building websites, intranets and web applications. The results showed at this year's Plone Conference 2023, held from October 2-8 in beautiful Eibar in Basque Country.
In the Coliseo theatre and in and round the city centre from early morning until late evening for the whole week, more than 150 participants shared their work, pet projects, extentions, and future ideas for Plone.
On Monday and Tuesday, experienced community members gave training sessions on all aspects of the Plone Content Management Platform, from content editing to theming, extending the new Blocks based in installing and deploying a full production-ready installation using container technology/Docker. The training space was provided by the Basque Summer University in a beautiful Renaissance noble house in the city centre.
On Wednesday, three days of of talks, presentations, discussions, and socialising started in the largest theatre in Eibar, the Coliseo, with a warm welcome by the Mayor of Eibar and representatives of commerce and innovation for the local region and Basque country. They stressed the importance of digital transformation, open source, and the contribution to employment and growth for the region. Much like the company CodeSyntax demonstrates, the organisers of this year's edition of Plone Conference.
Our release managers, Plone Foundation Board President, and community manager kicked off the presentation with a Keynote on the current release of Plone 6.0, and upcoming and planned features.
There were a lot of interesting talks, like:
- Theming Volto in 2024 by Piero Nicolli
- Breaking boundaries: Plone as headless CMS by Victor Fernández de Alba
- How Plone powers the websites of the largest municipalities in Catalonia by Marc Vicente
- An absolutely fabulous Plone by Eric Bréhault
- Refactoring Class Components to Functional Components by Tisha Soumya
- How we built the website for the German Aerospace Center (DLR) in less than six months by Timo Stollenwerk
During the day, coffee breaks and the provided lunch for all participants were used to meet old and new friends and further discuss presentation topics. In the evenings Eibar's hospitality was tested extensively in bars and restaurants. On Thursday, the traditional Plone Conference party was held in front of the theatre.

The Conference was not completely over yet though. Dozens of attendees sprinted on Saturday and Sunday October 7 and 8. They met again at the Summer University location in Eibar as well as remotely, working on features for Plone 6.1 / 6.2, improving documentation, and creating new Plone distributions.
Thank you, and see you next year!
