Background

Modena is capital of the province of the same name in Emilia-Romagna. The city has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1997 for its extraordinary architectural complexity. It encapsulates the highest expression of municipal civilisation in medieval Italy.

The Cathedral, Civic Tower and Piazza Grande represent the development of Romanesque architecture in Italy and Europe.
Modena is also famous culinary-wise for its PGI balsamic vinegar and Parmigiano Reggiano cheese, which can also be enjoyed together with a few slices of the delicious Modena PDO ham.

In addition, Modena is one of the four cities of Motor Valley: factories and museums of creatures of luxury, power and elegance, the likes of Ferrari, Maserati, Lamborghini, Pagani, Dallara and Ducati.

Visitmodena.it is the official tourist information site owned by the Comune di Modena (The City of Modena).

Building the sites

Red Turtle has built the following: MoNet: the civic network of the Municipality of Modena, ComNet: the collaborative intranet, and Visit Modena: the tourism portal.

Thanks to Plone and the Volto interface, the migration and update processes were partly automated, reducing the editorial workload.

The tourism portal is based on CMS Plone. The content and layout were designed to make the most of all the information to promote points of interest and events within the city.
