Plone 4 is coming with a lot of new features and improvements! But we can't find and squash its bugs without your help. Please help us improve Plone 4 by downloading and testing our “alpha 3” release. This release is only for testing purposes and is not suitable for production environments.

ONE-Northwest: online networking for the environment with Plone

ONE/Northwest is a US non-profit supporting the environment and grass roots organizations through the use of technology. For over a decade, ONE/Northwest has helped over 800 environmental organizations fuse technology with new ways of doing their work. The organization relies intensively on open source software, for example, offering websites powered by the Content Management System Plone in order to help environmental NGOs make the leap to the Internet age.

Can PloneGov Still Save The World?

The 5th International Conference on Open Source Systems took place in Skövde, Sweden, from 3-6 June. During his keynote address, Brian Behlendorf, a founder of the not-for-profit Apache Software Foundation, talked about the social impact of Open Source development. Specific mention was given to PloneGov a collaborative software ecosystem, where government organizations, non-profits and the private sector work together to share the cost of enhanced capabilities.

CommunesPlone, a PloneGov SubCommunity, has released its first finished applications, such as a meeting management tool, PloneMeeting, and a module, Teleservices that allows citizens to file documents and submit requests online. By releasing these applications, the CommunesPlone collaborative has quickly attracted more municipalities to the group, which recently reached its 100 local governments.

UK public organizations in Kent and Medway collaborate in an innovative open source project. The Kent Connects Information Sharing Portal has been developed to create a flexible, virtual online space for any Kent Connects partner to share information via the internet in a secure way. This allows groups, communities, partnerships or individuals across these partner organisations to access documents, minutes, agendas etc from a central, secure store.
