Eben Moglen to Keynote at Plone Conference 2006

Eben Moglen of the Software Freedom Law Center will give a keynote talk at Plone Conference 2006, titled "Software and Community in the Early 21st Century"

We're thrilled to be able to officially announce that Eben Moglen, Chairman of the Software Freedom Law Center, Professor of Law and Legal History at Columbia University Law School, and General Counsel of the Free Software Foundation, will give a Friday morning keynote talk at Plone Conference 2006 entitled, "Software and Community in the Early 21st Century."

Computer software is the medium in which architects of community now function, as structural steel was the medium of the 20th century.  Software makes and is made by communities; the social rules that determine its making also contribute directly to the rules of 21st century community more generally.  In this talk, Eben Moglen explores the larger sociopolitical significance of free software, free content, and the Net as Free World.

Dr. Moglen is the lead author of GPLv3, which is attracting quite a bit of attention in the free software community (and beyond!).  Less well-known is the fact that Dr. Moglen was a key architect of the Plone Foundation, and is a long-time supporter of the Plone community.
