Since 1989, Stichting Wintersporten organizes the Alternative Winter Sports Elfstedentocht in Weissensee, a magnificent 12 kilometer long lake in Austria. The start and finish are at the foot of the ski slopes. The competition on the 200 kilometer event is now extended with tours, a Quick Tour and a number of other tours and competitions. Weissensee.nl is the place to be for information about the event, the scores, weather forecast, video and more. The Weissensee KNSB organizes the annual Open Dutch Championship. The event is always held in the last weeks of January or early February. About 6500 Dutch meet annually at the Weissensee for a skate event that lasts two weeks.
