I Have A Dream Asheville

Sometimes you find unassuming gems of hope in our society. "I Have a Dream" is an international foundation that provides long term educational support for children from low-income communities. Asheville is fortunate to have a project started by Ken and Ida Brown in the fall of 2006. So far there are 20 students called "Dreamers" who are in 1st, 2nd and 3rd grade. The program includes meeting with teachers, classroom tutoring, daily after school programs, character development, team building, field trips and more. Each child is supported in the way that they need most to be successful in school and in life. The national average for high school graduation of Dreamers is 93% and each Dreamer who graduates is assured a college education! Asheville's energetic Project Coordinator, Jen Matthews, recruits donations, gifts-in-kind, schools supplies and volunteers year-round and is looking forward to their new facilities that will enable them to add 20 to 30 more students to the program in the second year. Give her a call to be part of this positive social initiative!
