What a perfect site for Plone! There are almost 600 historic homes and structures in Hendersonville, NC, that are now described online and available to historians, home owners, real estate agents and anyone interested in historic properties. The complex structure of the site is accomplished with multiple navigation bars that enable the viewer to browse by district, street and individual addresses. In addition, the Plone search function makes it easy to do a site wide search for styles of homes such as 'bungalow' or 'colonial'. The Certificate of Appropriateness section provides homeowners with guidelines for restoring their historic homes and the convenience of downloadable pdf forms. LuAnn Welter of the Historic Preservation Commission was able to pull together all of the home descriptions and is grateful that they are now all in one place, in a searchable format and that now she can begin adding photos of each of the historic homes to the website. Trent Hyatt of the City Planning Department provided the clear, easy to read district maps. A brief look at Hendersonville's past gives the viewer the historical context in which to view the properties. The next phase of this dynamic site is to create clickable maps of each district with pop up photos of each property.
