Online Support
Looking for help on using or setting up Plone? Online help is available over the internet in real time by connecting to the IRC network where you can chat with other Plone people and developers.
If you want to talk to the Plone community live, we have a 24 hour support room: the #plone channel on irc.freenode.net.
- Click here if you want to connect to the chat room directly using your web browser (requires Java).
- Click here to connect with an IRC client (requires IRC client installed — see below).
- If you are behind a firewall that blocks IRC, you may want to try a web-browser based client like IRCAtWork.com. Use server: irc.freenode.net, channel: #plone.
Some simple rules
- Please note that this is a volunteer service; being polite is the best way to get the help you need. ;-)
- Please do your research before you ask questions. Search the mailing lists
for questions that have been asked in the past, and also use the search box in the top right with the
Documentationpulldown selected before you ask. - Also remember that the level of activity varies, so if you don't get help at once, stay online for a while. (Most chat participants are on North/Central/South America or European time, and tend to be most active during normal business hours.) People will answer if they know, or ask for more details if they need it. Repeating the same question again and again won't help.
- Don't ask if you can ask a question - just ask it. We know why you are here. :)
- Do tell us what you're trying to achieve, what you're doing, and what's not working.
- Don't send private messages to people unless they have asked you to - it's considered rude in the same way as telemarketing calls are. ;)
- Don't paste code into the chat room - use paste.plone.org and paste the URL of the result to the channel instead.
Welcome to the Plone Community!
To connect with an IRC client, you need one installed (which we recommend - it's much nicer for long-term use than the Java app). Here are some IRC client recommendations:
