Complimentary Add-on Products
This How-to applies to: Any version.
Scrawl is a very minimalist product, and doesn't directly implement many features that a robust blog might desire. Fortunately, there are a number of separate, complimentary add-on products that you may choose to use with Scrawl. Following is a list of recommendations, with some notes drawn from our experiences.
Note: some of these third-party add-on products may require minor changes or customizations to work with Plone 3.0 and/or with Scrawl.
Improved Keyword Management
PloneKeywordManager provides a simple Plone Control Panel configlet that lets you rename, merge and delete keywords in your Plone site. It's a helpful tool anytime you're making heavy use of keywords.
Improved Commenting
PloneComments provides several useful comments-related features, including:
- Comments from named, anonymous users
- Comment moderation
- Notification to authors and site managers of new comments
PloneComments' released versions support Plone 2.1 and 2.5; as of February 2008, there is a Plone 3 compatible branch in their SVN repository, but it has not yet been formally released. We have used it in lightweight production without incident. Your mileage may vary.
Tag Cloud
TagCloud provides a simple tag cloud of keywords in your site. It is fairly easy to customize this to only consider keywords for a specific content type, although this does require modifying the code a bit. TagCloud does not have an officially-released Plone 3 version, but again, we have used it successfully in Plone 3.0.
