Project Description

Project resources

The Promo Engine developed by Six Feet Up provides a way to manage the syndication of static promotional content throughout a Plone site from a single centralized repository of "ads". The Promo Engine leverages the Archetypes reference engine to place ads in specific regions of a site ("ad slots").

this is really a great Product - minor issues

Posted by Dr. Reiner Pietrzak at July 2, 2007 - 20:43
I added PromoEngine to my site http://www.radlotse.org without problems. Thanks for this great Product.
There are however minor issues. When I configure slots 1,2,3 for permanent show up of ads in the left column and slots 1,2,3 for content dependent show up of ads in the right column of my site I observe some disturbance of the permanent ads in the left column by ads only defined for content dependent show up. The dependences for content dependent show up are fully matched. But the content dependent ads that only should show up in the right column also show up in an unpredictable manner in the left column where only permanent ad should show up.

And, yes, I swithed the kupu setup to manage links using UID's!

My left_slots properties contain among other entries:
...
here/portlet_ad_macros/macros/slot1
here/portlet_ad_macros/macros/slot2
here/portlet_ad_macros/macros/slot3

My right_slot properties contain among other entries:
...
here/portlet_ad_macros/macros/content_slot1
here/portlet_ad_macros/macros/content_slot2
here/portlet_ad_macros/macros/content_slot3

Is the observed behaviour a bug or didn't I simply understand the configuration options?
All the best

Need Some Clarifications

Posted by Jagan Nath at August 4, 2007 - 16:25
Dear Webmaster!

I have OScommerce installed at http://www.seomart.com, I want to run banner ads on that in Left and Right Portions, I tried PHPads new which is a little bit complicated, Do i need to install Plone to use your ads engine, OR will that also work as standalone with OScommerce

The PromoEngine will only work with a Plone install.

I have not seen this behavior. Could you give me some details concerning your setup. I'll need to know what version of Zope, Plone, and PromoEngine you are using. For bug reports please email the contact address listed on this page ( clayton@sixfeetup.com ) rather than through the comments system. Please respond to this comment/email through the same means.

Caching

Posted by Sean Fulmer at September 12, 2007 - 02:24
I'm testing PromoEngine for some clients, and it seems that if you're using it on a site with CacheSetup, the caching effectively trumps the ad rotation. Is there a way around this?

Rotation?

Posted by Barry Page at November 3, 2007 - 20:23
Does this product even do rotation? In my understanding it just allocates ads statically to 'slots' within a portlet; but you can use the macros to place an ad in any page template. I would however like to have rotation on my site, so if there is something I am missing...

"Rotation" within a single slot is random, although there is a plan/wish to implement weighted rotation.

Weighted Rotation

Posted by Clayton Parker at November 5, 2007 - 17:32
There is a plan to add weighted rotation although I haven't had much time to work on PromoEngine lately. I started to work on Plone 3 compatibility on the trunk but haven't had time to to fully test and create a migration path. The new portlet system in Plone 3 will bring the PromoEngine product some more ease of use and greater flexibility.

I've been thinking of moving the PromoEngine product into the collective and turning on the issue tracker here at plone.org in hopes that some other devs might want to help out. This may happen sooner than later :)

Plone 3.1compatibility

Posted by Enzo Cesanelli at July 25, 2008 - 11:16
Hi! I'd like to know if this product, in the while, has become compatible with Plone 3.1.x
I can't find PromoEngine in the collective svn...

For any issues with the web site functionality, please file a ticket.
