Motivation

Mobile phones are becoming ubiquitous in many countries through the globe. Developing the capacity for these devices to be both readers and creators of multimedia content would be highly advantageous for anyone wanting to deliver content from the web to the street and from the street onto the web.

Proposal

Create the capacity for audio, video and photo uploads from mobiles phones onto plone sites.
Make audio, video and photos on plone sites viewable and downloadable to mobile devices.
One way to do this is through creating a mms gateway, there are probably lots of ways it might be contructed however.
For partial example outside of plone see: http://www.mi2.hr/~andy/ngo-phone-ops/

Newly joined, know nothing about Plone. Not a website designer, but here goes.
Can Plone's rendering (standard rendering via browser) be adapted/extended to implement proprietary protocol to a mobile client app?
Can Plone assist in generating non-html and CSS, instead generate an XML file that will be navigated/interpreted by a proprietary client? Or, translation on the fly of HTML to XML for rendering.

Sorry, long question, byt WAP is NOT the only way to go on mobiles
