Motivation

An important function of Ploneboard, and of many Plone sites generally, is to promote and nuture user communities -- connections among human beings. To further that end, we believe it would be useful to be able to easily find out more about the author of a particular item.

Proposal

Make usernames link to the user's home page.

This is a no-brainer. I don't want to have the per-instance display setting for portraits that exists in the current version, though.

Either it is a global setting, or it should be removed.

Global?

Global per ploneboard, or global per plone instance?

Oops!

Sorry, I accidentally deleted limi's reply to my comment. As far as I remember, he said the setting should be per plone instance, and then wondered why anyone would want to turn it off.

Just to be clear, I'll be happy just as long as I don't have to have the user's portrait appear next every post that they make. That's all I was really getting at. Linking to more details about a user doesn't need a toggle, AFAIC.
