Motivation
Kupu is the way to go for wysiwyg editing. It's much more flexible and has many good features for editing.
Plone also needs a visual editor as the default, and have STX/reST as optional formats if you know what you are doing. In essence, you get this if you turn off the visual editor - but the default in a fresh site is to have Kupu as the editor.
Assumptions
We are shipping Kupu 1.2.x with Plone 2.1.
Proposal
- Remove Epoz and it's dependencies
- Ship kupu with Plone (compiled?) and all necessary libraries.
- Make kupu the default editor for each user
- Make sure the drawers can be edited/customized by mere mortals => zpt.
- Have a good set of drawers (LiveSearch-like drawer to insert links).
- Make kupu look Plonish
Progress log
Duncan needs to review this and do some of the dirty work. ;)
Paul is merging the drawer changes.
Limi will do some pixel tweaking here when all is done.

What about the FCKEditor just announced on Plone web site?
It looks quite good at first glance
Not by default
FCKEditor is an interesting editor, but it's not really suitable for CMS deployments. It doesn't make any attempt at cleaning up the HTML that the browsers produce, it has lots of unnecessary options, and is in general not what you want as an editor for a professional CMS deployment.
I agree that it should work if you try to install it, but it's not going to ship with Plone by default.
use also for discussions
I'd appreciate it very much if kupu and/or FCKEditor could also be used for editing comments, e. g. this one.
Strike thru Needed
In all of the previous demos that I have seen for this editor, none of them have supported strike thru. This little feature was added to Epoz over night almost eighteen months ago. I wish that it could be added to kupu/plone.
Many of our users will probably continue to choose Epoz because of this.
Please report it to the Kupu people
This is not a place to put bug reports or feature suggestions. :)
kupu i18n...
