Intranet Documents

RSS Feed Category: Basic content types, Layout and presentation — Other products by this author
This is a very simple product that when installed will give you a set of content types for MS Office documents and PDF. They have no special functionality, just UI tweaks.

Current release

No stable release available yet.

Experimental releases

Upcoming and alpha/beta/candidate releases

  • Alpha releases should only be used for testing and development.
  • Beta releases and Release Candidates are normally released for production testing, but should not be used on mission-critical sites.
  • Always install on a separate test server first, and make sure you have proper backups before installing.
Intranet Documents 0.1 (Unreleased)
Initial release. Works fine for me, but no other testing. Its a pretty simple product so shouldn't be any problems.

Project Description

Project resources

If you saw Joel Burton's, excellent 'Building a Humane CMS With Plone' talk at the Plone Conference in Seattle, you will have seen him mention a very nice little tip for usability, which was to clone the 'File' content type and create various content types named after things real users will be looking for. e.g. 'MS Word Document' rather than the very enigmatic 'File'.

This product does exactly that.

It provides no new functionality over the existing File type, but merely adds a few extra items in the drop down 'Add Menu' with the respective icons.

I've no idea what the legal status is of the icons, they are the ones that Microsoft uses to denote files created in its applications and are freely available on the web.

It currently uses GenericSetup to install itself, but once I figure out how to trigger GS from QuickInstaller I will add that.
