eXam is an effective way to conduct written examinations online and have a computer-supported correction phase -or none at all.

Upcoming and alpha/beta/candidate releases

  • Alpha releases should only be used for testing and development.
  • Beta releases and Release Candidates are normally released for production testing, but should not be used on mission-critical sites.
  • Always install on a separate test server first, and make sure you have proper backups before installing.

Bundle questions into an eXam; users are presented with their results immediately or after correction by a tutor.
Scores are being kept as a learner-portfolio in the member folder, at the eXam-instance itself or in the session.
Results/Score can be exported as CSV.


eXam was used for examinations with up to 120 students in the universities of Duisburg and Bremen, Germany,
FH Aargau uses it for self-assessment through the web.

eXam features the following question types:

  • Matching
  • SingleChoice
  • MultipleChoice
  • True/False
  • FillInTheBlanks
  • Math
  • Freetext
  • ShortAnswer
