Correct treatment of multi-byte characters in the "word-in-context" textarea

Motivation
While the spellers can accomodate a variety of encodings, when words are displayed in context, multi-byte characters are not treated as such. This leads to poor rendering of words-in-context and may corrupt corrections if the character offsets are not applied correctly when saving changes.
Proposal
