Which versions of Plone are compatible with version 2.x of Products.CMFEditions?

Plone 3.3.4 pins Products.CMFEditions to version 1.2.6. http://pypi.python.org/pypi/Products.CMFEditions shows 2.0b4 or greater. Can the 2.x series of Products.CMFEditions be used with Plone 3.x? Or is the 2.x series intended for Plone 4.x?
