When importing bibtex, '--' and '---' are mapped to '–' or '—', resp. On the other hand, when entering the corresponding unicode characters in plone, the bibtex export makes them '{\textendash}' or '{\textemdash}'. resp.

What do you consider to be the correct behaviour? Can you show it in a test?

IMHO, it should be translated into unicode, into the same characters as {\textemdash} and {\textendash}. The patch does this, but that does not seem to be the definite solution. In the attachment is my full patch, which does a bit more.
