Bika Interlab 1.3 (Jul 22, 2011)
Over the past months SAWLA, the South African Wine Laboratory Association (www.sawla.org) sponsored a number of incremental improvements and new features to Interlab, Bika's LIMS for inter-laboratory proficiency testing. These were bundled in this release.

Change log
To enhance performance, mean, standard deviation an performance statistics are calculated at the close of the proficiency testing rounds only, no longer after each result submission. The disclaimer in sample views was changed to reflect that stats will be available at close of round
Inactive member labs and contacts can now be flagged. Only active labs
and contacts get notifications of samples released for new testing
rounds and their closures, results, etc.
The top performers portlet now includes the sample type and the
member lab's position and score are now included in the round's closing
email too. The lab now does not have to go on-line for this verification
anymore.
The sample label has been improved and should any modifications take
place to the round after the samples' release, say the closing date
gets postponed, the modifications are communicated by email to all
participants. A re-release action is introduced to re-release samples
where releases were incomplete
Participation in a round now gets recorded. Only participating labs receive close of round and results notifications
To communicate general news or announcements to member labs, an
email function and template is introduced from where PT managers can
compile personalised messages (including name, surname, username, etc.)
to all or a selection of member labs' contacts
A report to extract user and contact information was added
For testing purposes, a feature has been added to override email
addresses - it redirects all emails to a test email address. A function
to recalculate the round's stats for verification purposes, with no
update of the database, was added for testing
too
For SAWLA issues arised from the 'Density' analysis that for wine is
typically very close to 1.00000 and only differs in the 4th or 5th
decimal between results submitted by participating laboratories, with the standard
deviation and Z-values equally precise. To resolve it, the decimal
precision for analysis results and stats can now be individually
configured
On the cosmetic front, the sample release and results emailed were
prettied up with the PT association's logo and better text formatting
A lot of support issues arose from the 2 step results submission
inherited from Bika's standard LIMS where results have to be verified by
a lab manager after being submitted by an analyst. This workflow step
is now optional
