RSS feeds are back

by Alexander Limi last modified December 12, 2005 - 05:11

The new plone.org makes it easier to create RSS feeds for any Smart Folder and search result, and as a result we have updated our old RSS feeds to a new format.

As explained in the last news item that went out on the old RSS feed, the RSS feeds have changed their URL locations.

You can subscribe by clicking the small RSS icons in the headers of portlets and headlines on plone.org - below are the two most used RSS feeds:

RSS feed for plone.org news

RSS feed for plone.org events

Feeds for product releases and documentation will also be added shortly.

If you don't know what RSS is, you can find an introduction to RSS here.

Code & Issue

Cool stuff - great work on the upgrade of the product and the site. When I click on the RSS button in the home page news slot, thunderbird says the URL is not a valid RSS feed. Could that be because the URL its pointing to starts with "feed://" instead of "http://"?

Another question - can you guys post the code for how to make that button. I could scrounge around and dig it up, but it would be cool it you could post it. In fact it would be great ot have a "snippets" area on this site where people could trade things like that.

d'uh - brain cramp

Ah yeah - brain cramp...checked the svn and grabbed the code from there. Sorry...for the silly question.

I think you need to fix that "feed" thing to say "http".

I was thinking that you had probably come up with a more dynamic function to create the RSS link...similar to how its generated in the document_actions macro using ids and such.
