Plone websites in UK

by Lukasz Lakomy last modified November 21, 2007 - 23:04

I think this is the second longest list of Plone sites available. Plone.net has 927 and 57 from UK (11 November 2007). So at least in terms of country my list is better. It has 470 'raw' entries.

How many Plone sites are in UK? I've took upon myself a task to count them and create list of Plone websites. I've looked for Plone webistes in England, Scotland and Wales. But I didn't do it manually. I've written a Python script that harvest links from Google based on some keywords and then checks if the website is a Plone website.

Cool!

Lukasz-

This sounds like really neat research -- thanks for sharing it! A couple of thoughts:

1) Plone.net is not intended to be a canoncial list of all Plone sites that exist everywhere. It is intended as a selective list of sites that are motivated to list themselves, and/or sites that are featured by Plone providers.

2) This sounds like a great blog post or item for one or more of the Plone mailing lists, but I don't think it rises to the significance of a News Item on Plone.org. (Admittedly, we need to have clearer guidelines for this.)

3) It looks like you are doing some great writing about Plone -- can you submit an RSS feed that we can include on planet.plone.org -- that is the main place for aggregating Plone community blogging activity. (Submit a ticket at https://dev.plone.org/plone.org)

Ticket added

Better as a blog post

Whilst I think this is really great research, we are a bit worried about publishing news like this, since I assume not all of 470 entries have agreed to be used for our own "marketing" like this. It absolutely belongs in the blogosphere, but IMHO not on plone.org as an "official" news item.

I agree

I've already assumed after Jon's post that this won't appear as a Plone news. But he wrote about this on his blog yesterday. I'm waiting now for decision about adding myself to planet.plone.org.
