Plone supports the DataPortability Project
Plone now officially supports the DataPortability Project in order to open up most data in Plone in a standardized way.
We are proud to announce that Plone supports the DataPortability Project.
We think that free access and control over your data is very important to everybody using the internet. Plone wants to support this notion by joining the appropriate Action Groups of the DataPortability Project.
Data Portability is a much discussed topic these days and we think that supporting such an idea is not only important for Social Networks but for Content Management Systems, too. It makes much sense to provide easy but controlled access to data in standardized formats. Plone will follow the work of the Action Groups closely and decide what proposed standards make sense in the context of Plone.
The person representing Plone in the Data Portability Group is Christian Scholz who is already active in most of the Data Portability Action Groups.
The DataPortability Project was founded as a grassroots effort to spread the idea of Data Portability and to provide technical and policy blueprints with information on how to enable the movement and control of data. Companies such as Google, Facebook, Microsoft and Plaxo already support it. The DataPortability project can be found at http://dataportability.org
