About the World Plone Day

What is the goal of the World Plone Day ?

The World Plone Day (WPD) is a worldwide event. Our goal is to promote and educate the worldwide public about of the benefits of using Plone in education, government, ngos, and in business.

Who organizes World Plone Day ?

  • WPD2009 Team
  • The Plone Evangelism group
  • The Plone Community
  • And you :D

How do I join World Plone Day?

You can join the WPD as an attendee or host. An attendee is someone who assist to a WPD event. A host is someone who organizes a local instance of the WPD.

Where is the list of host and cities whose held WPD ?

There are two lists:

  • the official and public list is here

So... Which is the WPD worldwide official site ?

Where is the internal information for WPD organization ?

but, Why are there local sites ?

We believe is a good idea to use http://plone.org/wpd as a main place to collect all the information for the global event. Every host should add an event in http://plone.org/events/wpd/2008 so we will be able to have a complete list of the hosts and its logistics details. But if any host needs or wants to do a new website for its local event we believe it is not a bad idea. One example is: Munich, Germany. Others just added a section in their website, for example Enfold, Abstract.

Where is the logo in high quality format ?

Hosting WPD

What do I need to be host of the World Plone Day in my city ?

To be host of the World Plone Day you need:

  • A place to give a talk
  • At least a Plone introductory talk
  • At least a person listening it during november 7th.

That's all. You can improve this list, but if you can fulfill this, you're a host of the WPD!

Where do I get a place to give a talk ? Who shall be interested ?

If you or your organization is not able to rent a place or has not enough people to deal with the organization, contact people who does, could be interested on learning about plone and could help you. Some of these could be:

  • Linux or any Free Software User Groups
  • Your local chamber of commerce.
  • Business networking events
  • Your local Rotary Club
  • Student associations at universities.
  • Local Governments
  • NGO's
  • Church

So, any place or organization where people meet :D.

What kind of talk should I give ?

An introductory talk should present what is Plone,  the most important features of Plone, and so on. One example could be:

  1. What is a CMS ?
  2. Uses Cases: oxfam, linux foundation, fsf, lf, unitednations, ammesty, cnnexpansion, discover, novell and any other case you can find in plone.net
  3. What is a Content Types, to introduce elemental content types
  4. Plone 3 features (see Jon Stahl's blog)
  5. Multiple users & security: showing openplans on action!
  6. Workflow
  7. Search Engine and multilanguage
  8. Support: plone.net, books, mailing list, irc, documentation at plone.org
There are a collection of support material in openplan's Plone marketing project also there are many slides from WPD 2008 at slideshare

.

It is the first time I'm going to give a talk (or I feel my talks are boring), could you give me any advice ?

There are many books about the subject but a great and very short one is called Why Bad Presentations Happen to Good Causes that you can donwload freely. In this book you'll learn how to organize a talk and make it interesting.

Promoting WPD local hosts

I've found the place, how do I get people to attend my local event ?

Just one word: Promotion. There are a flier ready to customize/reuse. Also a press release. Also it is very important you add your information in the openplans project and an event in plone.org.

How do I add the event in http://plone.org/events/wpd/2009 ?

  1. Login in plone.org website
  2. Use this link

What information shall I publish in Plone.org ?

In the event you should add at least:

  • The program
  • The logistic
  • Information about the organizer (you)

This page should be in english and if you want to add the translation to your native language, you could do it there too. Also you can add a link to an external page in case you've one. You can find good examples, such as the Naples one: http://plone.org/events/wpd/2008/naples-italy
Please, don't wait to have all the information ready to add the event, you can update it while you get the data and ask to publish it when you consider it's done.

Sponsorship

What is a WPD Sponsor ?

A sponsor is:

  • Any organization who contributes with the WPD
  • Any organization or person who organizes a local instance (host) WPD

What does it mean to sponsor WPD and How do I become a sponsor ?

All the sponsors, no matter the category, will be listed in the WPD home page. Eventually mentioned by local hosts (depending of the contribution).

How do I add my organization's logo in WPD home page ?

Just send a mail to Roberto Allende (rover at menttes dot com) with the logo attached. He'll do it in less than an hour (really). Also tell him where to point the logo (url).

I want to sponsor but not host wpd, what shall i do ?
