Motivation

Video files of a quality good enough to re-edit, broadcast or screen can be quite large. Uploading files via Zope is resource intensive and has the potential of bringing a Zope server to standstill if there are multiple concurrent file uploads.

Proposal

Tramline has been mooted as the most likely solution to this problem. Therefore, we propose to integrate Tramline into Plone to better handle the uploading of large video files.

The same people who made Tramline, also made Railroad and PloneRailroad for the handling of really large video files. PloneVideoLibrary might be able to explain how to use Railroad with an Archetypes product.  Railroad is probably overkill for most sites, but may want to be investigated for more advanced sites.

There is an issue in the Plone4Artists tracker: http://www.plone4artists.org/tracker/236
