Beyond the realm of your visitors, content editors and webmaster of course is the technology that actually makes the site 'run'. System administrators should have thorough knowledge about the installation and technical management of your Plone CMS - dealing systematically with the addition of extensions and versioning of the configuration is part of their job.

The target group for this training consists of both Plone Webmasters who want deeper knowledge about the management of their servers, and those responsible for managing servers who have Plone systems in their purview. After taking this course, Plone Webmaster will be able to (for example) set up an independent "test" version of their website to test changes before making them on the 'live' server.

This one-day training gives the participant an overview of the installation, design and configuration of Plone CMS viewed from the perspective of the system.

Prerequisites

Participants in this training should have the following experience:

• A familiarity with the information from our "Plone Webmaster" training and an affinity for systems management
• or: experience as system administrator in an organization
• Have basic knowledge of command line interfaces for the Linux operating system

Outcomes

At the end of the training, the participant will have knowledge of the following:

• Independently create a Plone configuration on a Linux (virtual) server using Buildout
• Backup and restore the content database of Plone
• Install Add-on products for Plone in the system, to make available for a Webmaster
• Check the Plone server for potential problems
• Change the system settings for the application server via the Zope Management Interface
