What's New in Plone 2.0 - Installer & Controller
What's New in Plone 2.0 - continued.
Epoz
Plone 2 full installer version ships with Epoz, a rich text (WYSIWYG) editor for HTML. This allows users to edit the HTML of a document through a supported web browser - Internet Explorer or Mozilla/Netscape-derived browsers.
For non-installer versions of Plone 2, Epoz can be downloaded and installed from the Epoz web site.
Archetypes
Plone 2 also comes with Archetypes, a system for easily creating new content types without having to create products by hand. Archetypes automatically takes care of generating edit forms, validation logic, view displays, and other details.
Documentation on Archetypes can be found in the documentation section of plone.org.
New Controller for Windows
The controller for Windows has been re-written to be more attractive and intuitive for Windows users. It's also written using a cross-platform toolkit, so Linux and Mac OS X users will get it soon too.
Removed Products
- CMFWiki
- CMFWiki has been removed from Plone full installer for Plone 2. This product has been deprecated for a while, and users are encouraged to examine ZWiki, which includes migration scripts from CMFWiki.
- CMFCollector
- CMFCollector has also been removed. This version will continue to run, but is no longer recommended or supported. There are several products that fill the same functional area as this, one of them being PloneCollectorNG. This product is a newer version of the Collector based on Archetypes. However, this product requires Archetypes 1.3, currently in alpha, a newer version than shipped with Plone 2 full installer version.
